About Bristol

Bristol, which is located in the South West of England recently identified by a national survey to be providing its residents with the "Best quality of life" in Britain.

The largest city in the South West & home to two universities, Bristol has all the benefits of a major university city with a thriving cultural scene with many clubs, excellent theatres, restaurants, cinemas, museums, galleries, varied sports and shopping facilities, and one of the most dynamic music scenes in Europe.

There are at least a thousand years of history wrapped up in the city, evident in its stunning architecture which spans from medieval times.The city used to act as a vital port for trading with countries such as Spain, Portugal and Iceland, as well as being the starting point for voyages to the New World. The most famous of these voyages was John Cabot's journey from Bristol in 1497, when he set sail on the Matthew in search of a passage to the spice islands and ended up discovering Newfoundland instead!

However, if you find yourself wishing to escape the city, Bristol is conveniently located in an area of the country which has some stunningly beautiful countryside within easy reach. The historical city of Bath is also only twelve miles away.

Both Bristol & Bath enjoy a wealth of cultural festivals throughout the year.
Bristol's social calendar is packed full of events throughout the year including the famous Balloon Fiesta where colourful hot air balloons take to the skies out over the city. There's also the annual Kite Festival, the Harbour Festival and St Paul's Carnival, celebrating Asian and Caribbean cultures.
